Kreuzberg may not be as alternative as it used to be during the student movement that gripped Berlin especially in the late 60ies, but it has reserved its charm even as a hip in-quarter. Kreuzberg celebrates its multicultural flair every year in the spring with the ‘Karneval der Kulturen’ (carnival of cultures) when a parade of hundreds of participants from all around the world take over the heart of Berlin.
Kreuzberg offers a variety of beautiful areas to take a walk, sit in one of its cafés or places to go out at night, from the Paul-Linke-Ufer located on the Landwehrkanal and the Viktoriapark – where the hill is situated that gave the quarter its name – to the bars and restaurants on the Bergmannstraße.
In Kreuzberg you also find some of the cultural and architectural highlights of Berlin the Jüdische Museum (Jewish Museum, build by famous architect Daniel Liebeskind), the Martin-Gropius-Bau (a museum hosting some of Berlin’s most interesting non-permanent exhibitions) and the Tempodrom.
